Clotho, the spinner

Written by Zoe Romano

Ancient Greek mythology personified fate as threefold.

Three women, the Moirae managed the thread of life: Clotho draws the thread between her fingers; Lachesis turns the wheel; and Atropos cuts the thread. Their role was to ensure that every being, mortal and divine, lived out their destiny as it was assigned to them by the laws of the universe.

Clotho gives life and brings us into the world, Lachesis determines our fortunes and Atropos concludes our lives.
